The Creative Process
Someone’s creative process says a lot about who they are. For me, I like to keep it simple.
Step 1: Define a Deadline—and Mean It
True masterpieces always come with a deadline. A real one. Deadlines force you to finish. Without them, projects drag on forever and perfectionism wins.
Step 2: Make It Exist
Get the idea out of your head and into the world. A thumbnail, a messy sketch, a rough draft, it doesn’t matter what form it takes. What matters is that it exists.
Step 3: Research (Just Enough)
Do your homework, but don’t drown in it. Research only enough to understand the subject. Art isn’t about reproducing facts, it’s about bringing your own interpretation to life.
Step 4: Execute
Now that you have a crude version of your vision, the path is clear. This is where you commit. Go all in, and bring the idea to life.
Step 5: Evaluate and Decide
Review your “finished” work. Sometimes that means asking for feedback from someone you trust. Then decide:
Do you revisit the work, using this version as your new first draft?
Or is it ready to share with the world?
Either way, your job as an artist is to move forward. Finish, share, and then start something new.
